Top Gear‘s latest series came to an end after just four episodes tonight (April 4) due to the pandemic, but the producers created an extra special episode to pay tribute to motoring legend Sabine Schmitz, who sadly passed away from cancer in March.

The ‘Queen of the Nürburgring’ became a famous face in the UK after she was first featured on the Top Gear, helping Jeremy Clarkson attempt the iconic race track while mostly taking the mickey out of him. She reappeared many times since and even helped host the show for its 2016 relaunch.

The special featured the show’s current hosts — Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness — as well as Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May all reflecting on Sabine’s life and their experiences with her. Fellow former presenters Matt LeBlanc and Rory Reid, as well as host of people from the motoring world, also took part.

It also featured clips of her from the years The Grand Tour trio were still on the show, including her taking on the Nürburgring in a van, with a terrified Hammond sat next to her (before he was thrown out for weighing her down).

Fans found the special a perfect tribute to Sabine, showcasing her talents behind the wheel and her huge personality, and for involving all the big presenters from Top Gear history in one programme. To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here to do so.
