It’s been almost a month since Meghan Markle shocked viewers around the world (as well as Oprah) by revealing that she and Prince Harry exchanged vows three days before their world-televised nuptials in 2018. And yes, we’re still talking about it. Only this time, we just got an update from the man himself—the Archbishop of Canterbury.

ICYMI: The 39-year-old and her husband sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all conversation, titled Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. During the interview, the duchess casually revealed that she and Prince Harry secretly tied the knot three days before their May 19 ceremony.

“I was thinking about it, you know our wedding—three days before our wedding, we got married,” the Suits alum revealed. “No one knows that. We called the Archbishop and we just said, look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union between us, so the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”

Of course, the internet immediately went into a full-on frenzy, questioning whether or not the first “I dos” were actually legal. According to a spokesperson for the couple, their official/legal wedding was on May 19.”

And now, the man who married the duo is speaking out on the subject confirming that the legal wedding was, in fact, the one we all saw. But he also seemed to confirm Markle’s report of a previous private get-together.

He told La Republic, “If any of you ever talk to a priest, you expect them to keep that talk confidential. It doesn’t matter who I’m talking to,” Welby started. “I had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the duke and duchess before the wedding. The legal wedding was on the Saturday. I signed the wedding certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a serious criminal offense if I signed it knowing it was false. So you can make what you like about it. But the legal wedding was on the Saturday. But I won’t say what happened at any other meetings.”

Maybe now we can put this topic to rest.
