Lil Nas X has hit back at critics of his new “Satan Shoes” with a faux apology video which he shared on YouTube late last night. The video comes in response to people who have criticised the trainers, which allegedly contain “60cc ink and 1 drop of human blood”.

We’ve all had his new single Montero on repeat since he released it last week, and Lil Nas X followed up the song’s video release with an announcement that he’s working in collaboration with streetwear brand MSCHF on a limited number of Montero-inspired “Satan Shoes” – black Nike Air Max ’97 which supposedly contain “60cc ink and 1 drop of human blood” and are limited to “666 pairs, individually numbered.”

It didn’t take long for backlash to begin and it went on long enough that Nike eventually issued a statement to clarify that they have no involvement with the new shoe: “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these show and we do not endorse them,” Nike said in a statement.

The conversation has been going on Twitter for a few days, and late last night Lil Nas X himself released an “apology” for the shoe’s critics.

Holding up one of the trainers, he begins the video by saying, “Okay guys, I see everybody’s been talking about this shoe and I just want to come forward and say-,” at this point the apology cuts to the lap dance scene from the Montero music video.

I can’t imagine this will be the end of this.
