Michelle Obama will launch a Netflix cooking series this spring encouraging children to eat healthily. Waffles + Mochi will be produced by and will star the former First Lady.
The 10-part show stars two puppets, Waffle and Mochi, aspiring chefs and best friends who are recruited by a local supermarket. Together – and with the help of friendly supermarket owner Mrs Obama – they find themselves on a culinary journey, “travelling to kitchens, restaurants, farms and homes all over the world, cooking up recipes with everyday ingredients alongside renowned chefs, home cooks, kids and celebrities”.
In her role as First Lady, Obama showed a commitment to educating the nation about the merits of healthy eating. She launched the “Let’s Move!” public health campaign, which was aimed at curbing childhood obesity.
Obama announced the news on Instagram, explaining that the series will be “about good food: discovering it, cooking it, and of course, eating it”. While Waffles + Mochi is aimed at children, she said that there will plenty of tips for adults too. The show will debut on 16 March.https://www.instagram.com/p/CLEvMnaL_B7/embed/captioned?cr=1&v=12
“In many ways, this show is an extension of my work to support children’s health as First Lady—and to be quite honest, I wish a program like this had been around when my girls were young,” she said. “I also know that this is a difficult time for so many families, and I’m hopeful that this delightful show can bring a bit of light and laughter to homes around the world.”
The show is just the latest project that Obama has worked on, following the best-selling success of her memoir, Becoming, and her sell-out international book tour.
