James Anderson inspired England to 227-run victory over India in the first Test in Chennai with a stunning display of bowling on day five.
England began the final day requiring nine wickets, with the hosts needing an unlikely 381 runs for a world-record chase, though they took hope from their recent series win in Australia after being able to bat out 131 overs in Sydney and they chased down 328 in 97 overs at Brisbane.
Jack Leach dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara, before a masterclass from Anderson, who ended with 3-17 in the second innings with his reverse swing causing India all sorts of problems, including the key wickets of Shubman Gill, who had made a smart 50, and Ajinkya Rahane for a duck.
But India still had hope with Virat Kohli at the crease, but his resilience was broken when Ben Stokes clean bowled the India captain for 72.
The game concluded when India were finally bowled out for 192 with Jofra Archer finding an edge from Jasprit Bumrah, securing a sixth victory in a row away from home.
The second Test of the four-match series will begin on 13 February in Chennai.
