There are plenty of things that make growing up as an heir to the throne unique, and one of those is having a full-time nanny – as is the case for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The Cambridge children are looked after by their nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who attended one of the most exclusive nanny schools in the world FYI, but it turns out there’s one word she is banned from saying at work, according to the training given at her college.
Maria was trained at the prestigious Norland School for nannies in Bath, even wearing the college’s unique uniform at Pippa Middleton’s wedding. On top of learning skills like self-defense and defensive driving, nannies are also reportedly taught not to say a particular word in front of children, according to author Louise Heren who spent a year at the college researching a documentary.
Speaking to The Mirror, Louise revealed, “The word kid is banned. It’s a mark of respect for the children as individuals.”
Instead, George, Charlotte and Louis are thought to be either called ‘children’ or called by their names.
So, we reckon there’ll be no, “Kids! Dinner’s ready!” in Kensington Palace then, eh?
Louise also said that she thinks life will be “pretty normal” for the royal children, according to the experiences of other royal nannies.
She explained, “Given what we have seen of Catherine [Kate] when she is out in public, she’s very hands on. I imagine her relationship with Maria is very close and they collaborate greatly on the care of the children.
“I’ve spoken to nannies who have worked with other royal families and life is pretty normal. You get up, have breakfast, you go to school and you wear your school uniform whether you like it or not. It would be quite like the average British school children.”
It’s previously been reported that William and Kate want to give their children, and especially George who is third in line to the throne, as normal an upbringing as possible, and it seems like having a nanny is helping them to do just that.
