Donald Trump’s (second) impeachment defense is looking shakier by the minute.
Democrats are beating the former president at the legal “jiu jitsu” leading up to the trial, MSNBC’s legal analyst Danny Cevallos said on Saturday, arguing that because Mr Trump turned down a chance to testify during the Senate trial, it could help strengthen a criminal case down the line.
An open letter from nearly 150 constitutional scholars also argues the ex-president’s proposed First Amendment defense probably won’t hold up during his riot hearing.
Even his former allies are considering abandoning him, as Republicans reportedly discuss forming a new party or GOP wing after four years of Trump.
